Bessie Roberts

Celebration of life services for Bessie Louise Potter Roberts will be held on Friday, October 19, 2012 at 2:00pm at the First Assembly of God Church in Bogata with Brother Daniel Hines and Brother Donnie Sherrill officiating.  Interment will follow in the Bogata Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Homes.

Mrs. Roberts was born January 2, 1923 in Red River County, Texas, to Dave and Jo Potter and passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 in Longview, Texas.  She married Jim “Boots” Roberts July 16, 1939 and they were life partners until his passing March 16, 2006.  She worked for Hollywood Vassarette in Paris, Texas for a number of years, but her passion was nursing and in 1974 she graduated from the then School of Vocational Nursing at Paris Junior College and was employed for many years with Red River Haven Nursing Home in Bogata.  In later years, she taught classes at the nursing home where she enjoyed helping young people prepare for their state board testing.  Her greatest pleasure came from spending time with and cooking for family and friends.

Those left to cherish her memory include daughter, Patsy Gail Collins of Longview, Texas; granddaughter, Kathy Potts and husband, Russell of Longview, Texas; grandson Mark Collins and wife Angela of Santa Fe, New Mexico; great-grandson, Kristopher Hiltzman and wife, Brooke of Longview, Texas; great-grandson Clayton Hiltzman of Longview, Texas; and, great-great granddaughter, Harper Paige Hiltzman of Longview, Texas as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Roberts was preceded in death by her parents, Dave Potter and Jo Perkins Potter, husband, Jim “Boots” Roberts, brothers Floyd Potter and Howard Potter, and beloved son-in-law, Howel Robert Collins.

The family expresses their sincere appreciation to Dr. Devabrata Ganguly of Bogata, Texas, Dr. Srinivas Rangu of Longview, Texas, the staff at Songbird Assisted Living in Longview, Texas and Texas Home Heath Hospice for their great care and genuine concern.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the sanctuary of the First Assembly of God Church.

The family requests any memorial donations sent to the First Assembly of God Church at Post Office Box 628, Bogata, Texas 75417 where “Sister Bessie” was a long time dedicated member.
