Ruth Griffin Skaggs, 87 of Deport, Texas passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2018 surrounded by her friends.  Wood Funeral Home in Deport have scheduled services for 4:00pm on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 in the First United Methodist Church of Deport with Reverend Vivian Crowson officiating.  Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Deport.

Ruth was born on July 7, 1930 in Rugby, Texas, to Sion Benjamin Griffin and Mollie Ripley Griffin.  She graduated from Bogata High School in 1947.  On October 1, 1948, she married T.V. “Dyke” Skaggs.  At the age of 18, she began work at Westinghouse in Paris, Texas.  It later became Phillips Lighting.  She was employed there for over 42 years and loved every minute of it.  Ruth also loved animals and never turned one away that needed a home.

Ruth leaves behind her beloved pets:  Mollie, Annie, Lucky, Cookie, Cooper and Sissy.  They will miss her dearly.  Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Dyke.  She is survived by two nieces, Vickie Touchet and Stephanie Whitehurst, both of Austin and a sister-in-law, Katherine Skaggs Stewart and husband, Al of San Antonio; many, many dear friends.  Ruth is also survived by her special friend, Marilyn Glover of Deport.
