Bernice Marie Loftin of Bogata, Texas went home to be with her heavenly father on January 14, 2018. Funeral services will be 2pm Wednesday, January 17 at First Baptist Church of Bogata. Burial will be at Bogata Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Homes of Bogata. The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday 11:30 until service time.

She was born on May 12, 1925 in Red River County, Texas to Jessie and Percilla Knowles of the Maple Community where she was raised.  She fell in love and married the boy next door, Carl Cecil Loftin after the war was over in 1946.  Bernice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, on May 25, 1985, her mother and father, along with two brothers:  David Knowles and Steve K. Knowles of the Rosalie, Texas Community and her sister, Cora Tidwell of Bogata, Texas.

Bernice and Carl moved to Irving, Texas in 1952. She was a homemaker who loved to cook and loved children. She kept several children of working parents in her home until her only son, Cecil Ross Loftin finished school and went into the U.S. Air Force. She then worked as a Nurses Aid at the Irving Hospital. She returned to Bogata, Texas in 2001 until she moved into Clarksville Nursing Center in 2013. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bogata. She loved to read the Bible and loved the Lord.

Bernice is survived by her beloved son, Cecil Ross Loftin and wife Laurie Loftin of Athens, Tx (formerly of Clarksville) and her grandchildren, Cecil Glen {TEX} Loftin and wife, Carrie of Bogata, Joshua Wayne Stephens and wife, Regina of Alto, Georgia, Robin Dawn Landress and husband, Eric of Cornelia, Georgia and Daniel Wayne Loftin of Chattanooga, Tennessee several great-grandchildren, Mikel T. Loftin, James R. Loftin, Timothy B. Loftin, Justin H. Bryant, Sabrina L. Stephens, Tristan W. Stephens, Haley M. Knight, Elijah J. Landress, Angel M. Sprague, Faih R. Decker and Harley W. Loftin, along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Geri Knowles of Deport, Texas formerly of Bogata.

The family requests memorials be given the Navigators P.O. Box 6079 Albert Lea, MN 56007.

    Cecil and Cecil Glen,Josh Robin and Daniel and all the great grandchildren and extended family I m sorry for your loss of Grandma Bern. She will be missed and we can hold in our hearts that she s in heaven with Carl and rest of family at God s side. She and I had lots of conversations on that very thing and she was looking forward to this trip as she told me after Carl was gone. I love you all and pray for u all.
