Nedra Ward, 99 of Tahlequah, Oklahoma and formerly of Hereford


Nedra Audell Ward, 99 of Tahlequah, Oklahoma and formerly of Hereford died on February 21, 2017 in the Cherokee County Nursing Center.  Funeral Services have been scheduled for Saturday, February 25 at 2:00pm in Wood Funeral Homes, Deport with Reverend Jim Ellis officiating.  Burial will follow in Sulphur Bluff Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00pm until Service Time.

Mrs. Ward was born in Elgin, Oklahoma on February 19, 1918, the daughter of Jess and Emma Davis Clayton.  She married Curtis Thomas Ward on September 10, 1949.  Mrs. Ward worked as an electronic circuit engineer in the Aviation Industry and was an active seamstress and crafter.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Curtis on June 14, 1985; sisters, Mary Hershey,  Lois Ethridge, and Molive Stafford and a brother, J.D. Clayton.

She is survived by her son, Phil Ward and his wife, Marje of Parkhill, Oklahoma; a step daughter, Jackie Douglass of Enloe; several nieces and nephews.

    My Aunt Nedra, wife to my father’s brother, my dear uncle Curtis, mother to my cousin Phil, was a formidable woman indeed. A feminist ahead of her time in that she truly was, and acted in her affairs equal to any man. No “little ladying” this woman! She has always had my respect for her strong will and character. I will not be able to attend services as I live in Wyoming, but send all my deepest sympathy to her remaining family and friends.
