Phillip Houston Rolen, 34 and formerly of Cuthand

philrolenPhillip Houston Rolen, age 34 of Providence Village, TX and formerly of Cuthand, died Sunday October 30, 2016 in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Funeral services will be 2pm Wed Nov 9, at the Cuthand Methodist Church with Pastor Guillermo Castellanos, Rev. Mark Jones and Rev. John Purviance officiating. Burial with full military honors at Cuthand Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Homes. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.  His remains will be escorted from Bogata to the church by East Texas Patriot Guard Riders with military funeral honors by Barksdale Air Force Base of Bossier City.  Full masonic rites will be given at the cemetery also.

He was born January 29, 1982 in Mt. Pleasant the son of William Rolen and Becky Cawley Lum. He married Amie Huberd on September 20, 2002.  He attended Rivercrest High School where he was on the all state debate team.   He then attended Sam Houston State University. He later enrolled in Paris Junior College where he was on the National Debate Team. After the 911 tragedy in New York and Pennsylvania he was inspired to join the U.S. Air Force. While he was in the Air Force he served with the 59th Med Wing in Balad, Iraq. He later was deployed to New Orleans to assist in Hurricane Katrina relief. He then was in the US Army in Utah

In 2007 he and his family moved to Montana where he received his BA degree from Montana State University. Upon finishing his college, he completed an internship with U.S. Congressman Danny Rehberg’s office which ultimately led him to participate in the Wounded Warrior Program to help rehabilitate wounded servicemen and women. He and his family later moved near Denton where he began working for the Covenant Church in their missionary endeavors.  He served in Ecuador and was serving in Cambodia at the time of his death. He was scheduled to go to Haiti after leaving Cambodia.

His survivors include his wife, Amie Rolen of Providence Village; four daughters, Kaidence Camille, Abigall Leigh, London Joy and Delaney Nicole; parents, Becky Lum and husband, Vince of Bogata and William Rolen and wife, Myra of Cuthand; grandparents, Bobbie Lee Cawley of Bogata and David and Sherry Rolen of Cuthand; brothers, Aaron Rolen and wife, Mandi of McKinney, Aaron Lum and wife Casey , Levi Lum of Bogata and Jacob Leffel of Cuthand, sister, Michelle Smith of Cuthand and a nephew, Reid Houston Rolen of McKinney and nieces Meridith and Bella Lum of McKinney
