OTHAL EDWARD SPENCER, SR. 85 of Bogata

edspencerOthal Edward [Ed] Spencer, Sr., age 85 of Bogata, died on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at his home.  Funeral Services have been scheduled for Sunday, December 20 at 2:00pm in the First Assembly of God Church of Bogata with Reverends Ray Evers and Sam Evers officiating.  Burial will follow in New Shamrock Cemetery in Bagwell.  The Family will receive friends on Friday evening beginning at 6:00pm.  Wood Funeral Homes, Bogata have charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Spencer was born on April 10, 1930 in Manchester, Texas, the son of Benjamin Marcus and Nora Bell Perrin Spencer.  He attended Red River County Schools.  On January 4, 1951, he married the former Pearl Martin in Texarkana.  They moved to South Dakota, where he worked for the US Geological Service, later moving back to Clarksville.  They then moved to Lubbock and he had a career, retiring as a Fireman from the City of Lubbock.  They returned to Bogata in 1971 where he was a carpet layer and owned and operated the Tip Top Drive Inn Restaurant.  He continued his carpet laying career until he retired in 1990.  He served on the Bogata City Council for a number of years, and was of the Baptist Faith.  His hobbies included fishing; cooking; gardening; and raising grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Pearl Spencer of Bogata; son, Othal E. Spencer, Jr. and wife, Virginia of Mt. Vernon; three daughters:  Deborah Hudson and husband, John of Bogata, Sandra Mauldin and husband, David of Bogata, and Stacy Weddle and husband, Steven of Pattonville;  brother, Ross Spencer and wife, Mamie and a sister-in-law, Ruby Spencer, all of Lubbock; grandchildren, Emily Christie and husband, Giles; Amber McGinley and husband, Blake, Bailie Marks and husband, Daniel; Alan Hudson and wife, Katha, Lauren Hanks and husband, Joel; Alison Bates and husband, Yukpa; Jayln Weddle, Jacob Weddle, Braleigh and Ryder; great-grandchildren, Keenan and Aspen Hudson; Ty & Jace McGinley, Rhett Hanks, Hazel Christie, Camdynn & Rylan Bates; children that were like family:  Misty Taylor Gage; Carter Kelsey, James Cowan; Haley Griffin Hawthorne, and Dr. Dru Denison.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Alvis, Gene & Amos Spencer; and sisters, Alma Barrett and Glovie Maye.
