Gwendolyn Bowen, 100 of Tulsa, Oklahoma and formerly of Bogata

Mrs Gwendolyn Bowen formerly of Bogata went to be with her Lord Friday  Feb 28 eight days short  of her 1 01st birthday. She had been a resident of Tulsa Oklahoma since 2009.

Funeral services will be 2pm Wed March  5 at Bogata Missionary Baptist Church with Rev Billy Daniels officiating. Burial will be in Bogata Cemetery under direction of Wood Funeral Home. The family will receive friends 1-2 pm Wed at the church.

Mrs Bowen was born March 8,1913 in Spring Creek Texas the daughter of George Woodard and Sarah Atlas Boone Patton. She married Cecil Bowen  January 30,1935. He preceded her in death September 24,1992.  She was also preceded in death by two sons, Paul Bowen in 2000 and David Bowen in 2012; two grandsons, Michael Bowen in 1976 and Ted Bowen in 2013. Until her health failed she was an active member of Bogata Missionary Baptist Church which she loved so dearly.  She was dedicated to the Lord and her church teaching in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for so many years as well as working in the nursery, church dinners, and simply serving where she was needed.  She frequently shared her faith with other residents of Maplewood Care Center where she had resided following a stroke in 2009.  She was dedicated to her family also helping out any way she could and making a quilt for each of them.  In 2013 she was presented a certificate from Maplewood for being 100 and still smiling.

She is survived by two children Sandra Brandt and husband Henry of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Jim Bowen and wife Martha  of Seattle,Washington; two daughters in law Mary Bowen of Tulsa and Kathy Bowen of Gladewater Texas. 9 grandchildren:  Shane Bowen of Arlington; Susan Sadler, husband Jeff; Sharon Sanford, husband,  John; Jeanie Meyers, husband Charlie; Julie Casteen, husband, Ken; Steve Bowen, All of Tulsa; Kevin Bowen and Colin Bowen of Seattle; Aaron Bowen, wife Ronda of Chico, California;  seven great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

She will be deeply loved and missed and she left us with many precious memories.  “We sorry but not for those which  have no  hope”1 Thessalonians 4:13

    Sandy, the family of Velma Hill wish to send our condolence to you and your family. Mrs. Bowen was a very dear friend to our mother for many many years. She will be missed but we all know she is with the Lord now. What a peace and comfort that is during times of loss.
