Gary Wayne King, 66

Gary Wayne King, age 66 of Longview, died on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at his home.  Graveside Services will be held on Friday, September 27, 2013 at 1:00pm in McCrury Cemetery with James Peoples officiating.   Serving as pallbearers will be Dalton Turlington, Dillon Turlington, Glen Turlington, Preston King, Tom Shnaper, Chris Alford, and Chris Barnes.  Wood Funeral Homes have charge of the arrangements.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11-1pm on Friday.

He was born on August 5, 1947 in Taft, California, the son of Pete and Ruth Billings King.  He was a proud Vietnam Veteran.  In the 1970’s he raced Street Stock Race Cars on a Circle Track in Ft. Smith, Arkansas.  He made “Rookie of the Year” in his division.  Family was the most important thing in his life.  His grandchildren were the apples of his eye.  Helping others was his greatest virtue.  He once helped a stranded family with car trouble near his home by inviting them to supper and driving them to their home three hours away.  He was preceded in death by a son, Tony Mathis.

Survivors include his wife of 42yrs, Theresa King of Longview; daughter, Bridget Turlington and husband, Glen of Tatum, TX; sons, Jamie King of Longview and Gary Miller of Rochester, New York; 7 grandchildren:  Anthony King and wife, Maria of Akin, Illinois; Preston King of Ore City; Samantha King of Huntsville; McKenzie Sutherland and Melia Sutherland of Tatum; Dalton Turlington and Dillon Turlington, both of Tatum.  He is also survived by a great-granddaughter, Riley Paige King of Akin, Illinois; a sister, Katherine Lambiase of Longview; two brothers, Floyd King and wife, Lisa of Longview and Ray King and wife, Linda of Longview.

    It’s hard to have a loved one pass away from us…we miss them terribly – but they will always be in our hearts and will think of them often. Smiles and tears when remembering him and family! Your love for your dad will not fade – you are a part of him and he is a big part of who you are 🙂
