Norvell Austin [Jack] Pettit, 96

Austin Jack Pettit, 96 of Bogata, died in Paris Regional Medical Center, Tuesday, August 6, 2013  Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2013  at 11:00 am in the First United Methodist Church of Bogata with Ethel Elrod officiating  Military Honors will follow at Bogata Cemetery  Wood Funeral Homes have charge of the arrangements.  The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 8-9pm at the Funeral Home.

 

He was born on March 9, 1917 in Cunningham, Texas, the son of Elmer and Doncie Webster Pettit  He married Lucille Topping in Clarksville in 1956  She preceded him in death on December 21, 2005  He was a US Army WWII Veteran and a retired farmer and Brick Layer.

 

Survivors include his children, Mary Sims of Cedar Hil; Nita Simmons of Mt. Pleasant; Lonnie Brown of VanAlstyne, Texas; and Lynn Murphy of Bogata; 9 grandchildren; a number of great-granchildren and great-great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by brothers, Houston [Pully} Pettit and Travis Lee Pettit and a special cousin, Rodney Pettit.

    Jack will be missed alot by us who knew him and thought so much of him! Jack was a very quiet humble man but if you could get him to talk about it he was a war Hero! He told me that he wasnt proud of all he had to do in the war so he chose not to talk about it! love you Jack.
