Myra Jean Permenter Obituary

Myra Ann Jean Permenter passed away peacefully from this life at the age of 84. She was born on September 30, 1939, to her parents Eunice Vance and Ruby Lee Pirtle in Johntown, Texas, the small community that remained dear to her heart all her life. She gave her life to Christ at the tender age of 10 years old and sought to follow Him in all she did.

She met and fell in love with Harvey Lee Jean, and they married on December 30, 1955. Along with having four children together, one of their greatest adventures in their 28 years of marriage was owning and operating the H. L. Jean Grocery and Feed Store in Johntown. After Harvey’s death and her years with the store were over, she went on to become a dedicated school secretary at the Bogata Elementary and Jr. High School, touching the lives of many individuals throughout her career. Her legacy extended beyond the school walls as Myra also served as a church pianist for an impressive 57 years. A very cherished church member, her devotion to Jesus, gift for music, and kindness to others was a joy and solace to all those in her life. Along with her love for the Lord and her aim to bring Him glory and point others to Him, she was known for her handiwork, from embroidery to knitting, often making something special for others. Myra loved games like Bingo, 42, cards, and Scrabble, and enjoyed watching a good ballgame, whether it be the Rangers or the Mavericks.

A most beloved Mother, Mammaw, and Aunt Myra, she will be dearly missed by her loving family which includes her children Donald and Freda Jean, Dana Jean, Dale Jean and Dawn Tysdal-Jean, and Darla and Ryan Brunson; her grandchildren, Mitchell and Brandi Jean, Sarah Jean and Nathan Thomas, Tyler and Kelsey Jean, Holly and Joshua Kara, Allix and Trevor Ruby, her great-grandchildren, Maggie, Anna, and Sawyer Jean, Elijah, Olivia, and Lillian Kara, and Ella Jane, Emmy Dawn, Mylla May, and Leo Ruby, and her nieces and nephews, Lana Belknap, Clay Pirtle, Noah Pirtle, Conner Pirtle, Lindsey Montgomery, and Stephanie Palmer, as well as a host of other extended family and many friends. Myra was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Harvey Jean and Calvin Permenter; her brothers, Drue and Vance Pirtle, and a great grandson, Bentley Jean.

We bittersweetly prepare to both say goodbye and celebrate the life of Myra during the upcoming services. The family will receive friends at the Wood-Haggard Funeral Home in Bogata on April 19, 2024, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be held the following day, April 20, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the Bogata Missionary Baptist Church, where she dedicated many years to sharing her musical talents.

As we look back on the memories shared with Myra and the impact she had on so many lives, we invite all who knew her to join us in honoring her life and saying our goodbyes. Myra will be remembered for her kindness, her devotion to her community, and her unwavering faith. May she rest in peace in the arms of her Savior.
